Helmet Challenge

This challenge will utilize the same exercises as the U13 and U15 "Wall Ball Challenge."  What will be different is a higher number of reps needed to pass and technique will be more scrutinized.  All age groups are welcome to try this challenge after they have achieved their goal with the regular "Wall Ball Challenge."  Another difference is that this will not be tiered per age group.  For players that are willing to put in the extra time /dedication on the wall and are committed to improving their skills, this challenge is passable. This challenge will be difficult and will require significant investment from the players to dedicate on their own time.

Goals (All Levels)

  • 2 hand righty-52
  • 2 hand lefty-52
  • 1 hand righty-35
  • 1 hand lefty-35
  • Switch hands-45

Helmet Challenge Prize:

  • Custom Reading Rocket Helmet

Goalies:

The goalie wall ball challenge will be totally different and is more geared toward fulltime goalies. U9s should do the regular challenge.  U11s can decide on their own but we'd rather see the younger U11s do the regular challenge.  A separate email and instructional video will be sent laying this challenge out

  • Players are to be 4 paces or more from wall or bounce back (no creeping in)

Final Thoughts:

Remember, the purpose of doing this challenge is to improve stick skills - the prizes are a great incentive to promote self motivation and discipline.  Players that are more focused on the prize and not the skill may lose sight of technique and long term benefits. Players should be concentrating on form, especially on the basic 2 hand righty and lefty exercises.  When reviewing videos, technique will be the number one reason videos may be denied.  For the regular "Wall Ball Challenge"  good technique is required but won't be as highly critiqued as the "Helmet Challenge".  Players should start off more aware of good technique rather than number of reps and time.  It makes no sense to do this challenge if we don't correct bad habits.   Once technique is where it should be, follow up with increasing amount of reps to reinforce form and endurance.  When players are confident their skills have improved, try timing.

Number of reps needed to pass each exercise will be emailed out in about two weeks.

HIT THE WALL!

Good Luck!
